Lower Secondary Curriculum
Through a broad curriculum, pupils are able to practise and refine their collaborative, communicative, creative, reflective, independent, questioning and research skills through an inquiry-based approach to learning.
Underpinning all aspects of the curriculum is our unique individual coaching and mentoring programme. Your child will be allocated a member of staff as a personal coach who will meet with them individually and guide them as they move through Years 7 – 9.

Years 10 – 11
Upper Secondary (IGCSE)
All Year 10-11 pupils will take a core curriculum of subjects together with various options. The IGCSE years set a strong foundation for all pupils with the aim to maximise their academic achievements, whilst taking their first step towards choosing a potential career.
The curriculum is made up of the subjects listed below. Pupils will select up to a maximum of 10 IGCSE subjects. All pupils must select the two core subjects, at least 1 language and either 3 separate sciences or the Co-ordinated Science course. They can then choose up to 5 other options from the table below.

A Typical Day at Senior School
The school day begins at 07:50 with our daily Registration period. We will welcome pupils onto site from 07:35 when the gate is opened. During the drop-off window, pupils may enjoy socialisation with their friends and prepare for the start of the day. Lessons begin at 08:00 and the formal teaching day ends at 15:20 in the Senior School, following which pupils are warmly encouraged to stay for a Co-Curricular Activity (CCA).

Mr. Richard Moore, a distinguished educator with over three decades of experience, has passionately dedicated himself to shaping the world of education across the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Egypt. Since August 2024, he has served as Principal of Stonyhurst International School Penang, where his expertise and visionary leadership have been instrumental in the school’s growth and success.
Alongside his remarkable professional journey, Richard is a devoted family man and the proud father of four children. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Management, reflecting his lifelong commitment to personal and academic development.
Richard’s decision to join Stonyhurst International School Penang was not merely a career move—it was a deeply personal commitment. He firmly believes in the school’s potential to offer a world-class education. At the heart of Richard’s educational philosophy is the belief that every child is unique and deserves an environment that nurtures their physical, mental, emotional, and social development. With unwavering dedication, he strives to cultivate such an atmosphere, enabling each pupil to reach their full potential and thrive as individuals.

Kerry Moore was born in France and grew up in Belgium and Italy where her love of languages flourished. She achieved a BA Single Honours in French at University College London and completed her PGCE with the University of Leeds. She has worked as a languages teacher (French, Italian and Spanish) for over 20 years, with 15 years’ experience in the UK – many of which as a Head of Languages Faculty and Head of Year. She brings 4 years of experience teaching A Level and/or International Baccalaureate. More recently, she was Assistant Head at a British school in Cairo and has enjoyed working with schools that place great emphasis on nurturing positive and wholesome values.
She recently completed a Masters in Advanced Teaching and was also awarded the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership by the Department for Education. Kerry Moore has a particular interest in the effective use of formative feedback to enhance pupil learning. Whilst working in Egypt, she took part as a member of a panel focussing on formative assessment in the virtual Outstanding Schools of the Middle East annual conference.
Her daughter Amy lives and works in London and her daughter Holly, is currently enrolled at Stonyhurst International School Penang.

Mr Guillaume Jamen was born and raised in Toulon, in the South of France. Regional champion in his favourite French sport l’ escrime (aka fencing) he graduated from l’ Université de Nimes with a BA Hons degree in Hospitality Management, which led him to manage teams in the hospitality and travel consultancy industries in the Channel Islands and the UK. He has 3 years of teaching experience as an A Level and/or International Baccalaureate educator.
Before qualifying as a Teacher of French and Spanish in 2015, Guillaume also spent time living in Beijing and has backpacked across Australia! He enjoys trying new foods and exploring new places, with his British wife and two young children Nicolas and Charlotte, who are raised bilingually French and English. When he gets time to himself, Mr Jamen can be found practising one of his many musical instruments- the ukulele, harmonica, guitar or going to the climbing centre.
Guillaume is passionate about bringing languages to life by sharing his culture, personal experiences and funny stories with his students!

Meet Pei Shi, a dedicated educator with a passion for music and teaching. She holds a Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Performance & Pedagogy with a minor in Psychology. Pei Shi earned her Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in 2019 and also holds an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme Certification.
Previously, Pei Shi served as the Head of Music at her former school, where she gained valuable experience fostering an inspiring musical journey for children. Her time in Penang was filled with musical adventures, teaching music, piano and violin in schools and privately, as well as performing with the Penang Symphony Orchestra. She also enjoyed leading the Penang Junior Orchestra as the associate conductor.
Pei Shi is passionate about creating inclusive and supportive learning environments where every student, regardless of their background or abilities, can explore and express themselves through music. She believes deeply in the power of music to connect people and cultures!
Pei Shi enthusiastically welcomes everyone’s involvement in music and looks forward to creative collaborations in years to come!

Miss Peh is a graduate of the Department of Chinese language and literature in Nanjing University and holds a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages from Beijing Normal University. She also holds an IB teaching certification.
Miss Peh has taught Chinese in countries such as Brunei and Cambodia for over 15 years. She believes that creating a happy learning environment for pupils is the primary duty of every teacher and excels in integrating content that interests children into her lessons.
She chose to join Stonyhurst International School Penang because its educational philosophy closely aligns with her own beliefs.

Mr. Faridzul Anuar holds a Bachelor of Education (Hons.) in Physical and Health Education and Diploma in Public Administration from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
Anuar is passionate about health and fitness, with extensive educational experience in Physical Education from (UiTM). He is dedicated to creating a positive, inclusive learning environment and aims to inspire pupils to embrace physical activity, promote well-being, and gain the skills for a healthy lifestyle.
Anuar’s lifelong dedication to football, athletics, running, and a variety of other sports, coupled with his completion of grassroots football coaching through FAM, highlights his disciplined approach and strong teamwork skills.

Mr Anton Bush joined us from another International school in Malaysia, where he was the IGCSE coordinator and pupil profile leader. A maths teacher, head of department and leader with over 20 years of experience teaching IGCSE, A Level and IBDP Mathematics and Further Mathematics courses, Anton has a particular specialism in pure maths and mechanics.
He is keen to emphasise the real world application of mathematics both in lessons, and in CCA activities. After gaining a degree in electronic engineering from the University of York, he worked as a telecommunications research engineer and contributed to many international projects, gaining patents for a number of inventions.
He uses these experiences to encourage pupils to be curious about the underlying maths in the world around them, and the confidence to question how things work, and how they might be improved. He is a keen guitarist and (very) amateur luthier, and he keeps fit by cycling and taking country walks whenever possible.

Mrs Evans studied Human Biology at the University of Birmingham and graduated with a BSc in 2010. She continued her studies there and completed her PGDipEd and Masters in Education at the same University.
Helen has worked in a number of different schools in the UK and before moving to Stonyhurst Penang, her most recent role was as Head of Science in a secondary school in Birmingham. Her teaching philosophy centres around building strong relationships with her pupils and building on their strengths. She is passionate about bringing Science to life through practical activities and enquiry based learning, as well as real-life examples of Science at work. Helen has 4 years of experience teaching Biology at A Level, with both AQA and Edexcel exam boards.
Stonyhurst Penang is Helen’s first international post and she has loved becoming a part of the team. Helen was attracted to the School’s commitment to developing the whole person, especially in the service of others.
In her spare time, Helen enjoys netball, swimming, exercise classes and reading, as well as hiking and travelling with her husband and two young children.
