Mr Gregory Yates has been fostering a love of literature, poetry, drama, art, language and mythology since his own interest was sparked at an early age. Through a traditional education at Shrewsbury School to attaining a B.A. at Trinity College Dublin and postgraduate studies in the University of Manchester: the forms, craft and tenets of literature both ancient and modern have been constant fields of both study and enjoyment.
His teaching, guided by educational research, the sharing of best practice and the observations of ten years of experience as teacher of English and Head of Classics, is based on an individualised approach, which fosters curiosity, independence and academic acuity. He has also put his love of drama into practice on many occasions, directing productions from Aristophanes’ comedies to Shakespearean tragedy, inculcating and understanding of the power of language and rhetoric in his pupils. His teaching of Latin for the past ten years has developed a deep understanding of the roots and etymology of English along with an interest in the development of language as a whole. Outside of school, he enjoys travel, going to the theatre and exploring museums and cultural sites with his wife and three children.
