Mr Nicholas (Nick) Umpleby graduated from Durham University before completing an MSc from Oxford University. He then went on to complete a Graduate Diploma of Education from Latrobe University, Melbourne, and gain the National Professional Qualification of Middle Leadership (Department for Education, UK).
Nick has led teams in Australia and across Asia and East Africa and he is passionate about engaging students in real-world problem solving and taking learning beyond the school gates. Nick was attracted to Stonyhurst due to the school’s commitment to values-based education and developing compassionate men and women. His own educational ethos is governed by the belief that teachers should help pupils develop the attributes to thrive, and positively contribute, in the world beyond school; and that students learn best when they know teachers care.
Prior to a career in teaching, Nick worked for a leading adventure travel company as a Mountain Leader and he has designed adventurous educational opportunities across four continents; enabling him to also teach kayaking, climbing and navigation to secondary school students.
