The Higher Line Scholarship
The Higher Line Scholarship is a merit-based tuition fee remission award granted by Stonyhurst International School Penang for exceptional external applicants seeking entry into the Sixth Form (Higher Line) Programme.
Established to widen access to the intellectual and leadership opportunities of the Higher Line, this scholarship recognises pupils who have achieved outstanding results at SPM, IGCSE, or equivalent qualifications and who demonstrate the character, curiosity, and academic ambition required for A Level study.
The scholarship is awarded on academic merit alone and does not require a financial means assessment. The award is tenable for two academic years (Years 12–13) and is subject to annual review following AS Level results.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be applying for entry into Year 12 (Sixth Form) at Stonyhurst Penang;
- Have completed, or be completing, SPM, IGCSE, or an equivalent qualification;
- Demonstrate excellent academic attainment and strong readiness for A Level study;
- Exhibit qualities aligned with Stonyhurst’s values of integrity, service, and leadership; and
- Satisfy the School’s admissions requirements, including assessment and interview.
Award Criteria
Scholarships are awarded to applicants who demonstrate:
- Outstanding academic results in SPM, IGCSE, or equivalent qualifications;
- Intellectual curiosity and readiness for the rigour of A Levels;
- Strong performance in Admissions Day assessments and interviews; and
- The potential to contribute meaningfully to the academic and service life of the School.
The level of tuition fee remission is determined annually and will be detailed in the formal award letter.
Awards will be announced before the Michaelmas Term (August).
Scholars are expected to:
- Maintain strong academic progress throughout the A Level programme;
- Participate fully in academic, service, and leadership opportunities;
- Engage in super-curricular enrichment;
- Demonstrate a clear commitment to pursuing university or higher education;
- Uphold Stonyhurst’s values of excellence, humility, and service;
- Meet termly with the Head of Academic Scholars for guidance and mentorship; and
- Consent to, and participate in, school communications and promotional activities, including marketing and social media.
Scholarships are reviewed regularly and may be withdrawn should a scholar’s academic performance or conduct fall below the required standard.
