Gareth is originally from Birmingham, England. He graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in History from Newcastle University. For over a decade, prior to becoming a teacher, Gareth was a researcher and a writer.
Gareth gained his PGDE through the Teach First Programme. Over the last six years, Gareth has taught in a number of different settings, in and around Birmingham, working with a huge number of children for whom English is a second language. In addition to being a class teacher, Gareth has also worked in schools as a tutor, as part of the National Tutoring Programme.
As a teacher, Gareth’s top priority is helping the young people he teaches to become eloquent, confident and independent learners. Gareth believes in creating a nurturing classroom environment where children’s self-esteem is allowed to blossom and children are encouraged to lean into their innate strengths.
Away from the classroom, Gareth has always been a keen sportsman. His particular passions are rugby, football, basketball and snooker. In addition to sports, Gareth is also a poetry enthusiast, which lately he has channelled into songwriting. Gareth is excited about exploring everything that Penang has to offer with his young family: the stunning landscapes, the wildlife and, if he’s honest, particularly the food!
